For this photo series, I wanted to take myself back to when I was younger. To a time where I didn't have to worry about essays, mounds of homework, or responsibilities. This was a time in my life where I could just have fun with friends and family. I started this series off with a board game called Clue. Where Scooby-Doo was my favorite character to play. Solving mysteries and figuring out who the murderer was something that always brought my family together. Next is the deck of cards, this deck of cards have a special place in my heart. They were the first ones I learned to play poker on. I remember every Thursday night I would beg my grandmother to teach my how to play poker. This was something special that I had with my grandmother, considering no one else in my family likes or knows how to play. Game night was always crazy when someone brought out Trouble. The constant sound of the popping from the "Pop-o-matic" brought energy and excitement to the table. When my family played Trouble there where two extremes, feeling bad or being ruthless. After this game or family was either laughing of crying. While, Apples to Apples was an easy way to bring laughter and happiness into the house, with all the funny combinations of cards. It was a fun way to bring the family together. Although it may not be my favorite game, it was Cassie's (my sister) and game night was also about compromise. Jumanji wasn't a game I had when I was younger, but I loved the movie. This is a game I always dreamed of being real, where the monsters could really come out of the board game and we would get into all this trouble. The game is quite interesting to play and battles rolling the dice can become intense. Although the game wasn't like the movie, I still got the same sense of "aw" when playing it. The sudden bang of the metal Dominos container always startled me. This was a game were noises where prominent. Making the longest train and matching all the Dominos was the calming part of the game. Things got more intense when my sister would get mad at me for stealing the only match she had, I found this the funniest part of the game. I remember everyone would try to get rid of all their pieces in the first go and to this date only my mom was successful. The game of life means a lot to me because it was a great way to live an imaginary life. Amber (my other sister) would always end up with two cars full of babies and we would always end up these ridiculous jobs. The activities the cards would tell us to do, always made me laugh. It was always great to see who had the most money in the end and deciding who had the best "life". Monopoly is my all time favorite game. Being able to buy all these different properties and making the most money. I always played the dog and most of the game I would be in jail. In the image with the properties, I placed Boardwalk in the middle because it was the property I always strived to purchase. The version in the picture is the one from my mom's childhood and one of the only games she kept from then. I love this game because it was a piece of my mom's childhood and I was happy she wanted to share that with me. This series means a lot to me because these photos represent most of my childhood. Board games were a way from my family to come together and have fun even on the blandest days. Therefore, these board games will always have a special place in my heart.
