Irving PennMy photographer is Irving Penn. Irving Penn was born June 16th, 1917 and he died in October 7th, 2009. Penn took many different types of photos. They ranged from fashion, nudes, still life, beauty, portraits, small trades, travel, and documentary. He also drew and painted.
Penn's work was mostly focused on photography and he worked for Vogue Magazine and for independent advertising groups like Clinique and Issey Miyake. I chose Penn because I liked the simplicity of his photos. The photos he took are very diverse and opened me to take a range of photos and not have to focus on a specific topic. Although his work is very simple, it creates a story that engages the viewer. |
In this photo, I decided to replicate one of Irving Penn's beauty photos. Although slightly different, there is a visual resemblance to the photo that he took. The shine on the lipstick creates an interesting focal point. The dark background against the light skin tone shows an intense sense of contrast. The lighting of the photo is coming from a window in the entry of my home. This lighting really encases the subject of the photo. This photo was interesting to me because it highlights a common action in an elegant way. It emphasis the idea of beauty in everyday tasks in actions.
